What to use it on?

All new or coated rough sawn and smooth planed wood

Use on...

Before you start
  1. Fence Life Plus can be applied when the wood is damp, but not dripping wet. So if it’s rained that day, you need to wait for five hours before putting it on.
  2. The treatment can’t be applied in the rain. It needs to be a warm, dry day with temperatures above 10°C. Cold weather will stop it from properly drying and it might wash off.
  3. Make sure the wood is clean and use a stiff brush to remove any dirt.

Rough sawn wood requires two coats, smooth planed wood needs three coats and if you’re wood is weathered, you may need to apply an extra coat.

Fence Life Plus is safe to use around pets and plants.

It can’t be used on decking or garden furniture – we have other products that can help you with that job.

Application

You can apply Fence Life Plus with either a brush or sprayer.

Brushing

  1. Check that you’re happy with the colour by applying it to a small hidden patch and leaving it to dry.
  2. If you are happy with the colour, get loads of Fence Life Plus on your brush.
  3. Apply a thick coat. If you notice drips, brush them in.
  4. Leave four hours for the first coat to dry. Assess the fence to see if you need to apply another.

Spraying

  1. Pour the Fence Life Plus into the tank.
  2. Pump up your sprayer or turn it on and start spraying. Use long, sweeping horizontal arm movements.
  3. Move along the full width of the fence panel, drop down and do the same again.

Overlap each pass by 50% for proper coverage.

Aftercare

Maintenance

If you notice any spots of damage on your wood, simply apply another coat to protect it.

Cleaning

If you get any Fence Life Plus on plants, paving or other surfaces, clean it up straight away with soapy water before it dries.

Remove as much product as possible off your brush and then clean it with warm soapy water.

Sprayers need to be kept clean to work properly. You should never leave any product in the sprayer. To remove it, flush it out with water and make sure the wand and nozzle are clean. Your sprayer will have full instructions on how to properly clean it.

The tub of your sprayer should be stored upright to keep it secure and prevent spills.

You should never dispose of Fence Life Plus into drains or watercourses. Contact your local council to find out how to properly dispose of it.

Why do I need to protect my fence or shed?

Fences and sheds are made of wood. If you don't protect wood it'll turn grey in the sun or rot in the rain. At best it won't look good. At worse, it'll collapse. You can choose two different kinds of Fence Life to protect it. One Coat gets the job done fast. 5 Year Weather Defence needs two coats but will last year after year, after year. Revise with correct products.

How does the Precision Finish Power Sprayer work?

Our new Power Sprayer paints a fence panel in just 2 minutes. What's different is the power settings. You can control how it sprays. It has an accuracy setting so you can do the fiddly parts of your fence, with a small spray pattern. A control setting, that has a wider spray pattern, ideal for filling in gaps. Setting 3 is made for speed. Covering large areas, quick.

How do I clean the Fence Sprayer?

To empty the sprayer, push the pump handle all the way down and lift the pressure release valve until no ‘hissing’ can be heard. Once the pressure has escaped, unscrew the pump unit and tip any liquid back into its tub. (Alternatively, spray the excess liquid back into its tub before releasing pressure). Remove as much product as possible before cleaning, some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings. Don’t empty into drains or watercourses. It’s important that the sprayer is cleaned thoroughly after use. Don’t leave the sprayer filled with product when not in use or overnight. Rinse out the sprayer several times with clean water, then refill with clean water. Re-pressurise and then spray through the nozzle until the water runs clear, it’s best to do this on the Speed setting. Unscrew the wand handle from the trigger and clean the filter with clean water. Remove the nozzle and white filter and clean with warm, soapy water and an old toothbrush. Make sure you don’t use a sharp object as this will damage the nozzle and ruin the spray pattern. Put the nozzle back together and take care to do this in the correct order.

When should I treat my fence?

The best time to treat your fences is in spring. At this time the temperature is more favourable and vegetation which would normally get in the way will not have grown too much. Treating at this time means the hard work is done in time to enjoy the summer.

How to remove Ronseal fence paint

Our fence paint can be easily painted over, so if you want to change the colour or freshen up the paint, just paint over it. You might need several coats if your covering a dark colour with a light one and vice versa. For paint that’s flaking or peeling, you can sand the damaged area and cover the old paint with a new one. If you don’t have any sandpaper, you can use a stiff wire brush which will also remove dirt too. If your fence paint has splashed onto concrete or patio, a pressure washer or a stiff wire brush with some hot soapy water should get rid of the fence paint.
